Panama appearing in Korea’s trends prompted this small Panama City shortlist. The trending term was the country, not a measured ranking of these attractions. We checked the Canal Authority and national tourism descriptions on October 10, 2026. This is a researched planning guide, without a claim of visiting the sites. The aim is to choose an anchor for a day, rather than establish an official top three.
Miraflores: make the canal operation the point
The visitor center offers viewpoints for observing ships and the locks. The Canal Authority notes that ship transits vary with the schedule. I would put this first when understanding the working canal is the reason for the outing.
The tradeoff is timing. Your arrival alone does not determine when a vessel will pass. Check official transit and visitor information before arranging the rest of the day. Decide whether you want a brief look or time to watch the process. Ask the people traveling with you how much this interests them; a famous name on a map need not determine everybody’s afternoon.
Casco Antiguo: leave room for the neighborhood
The old quarter, also called Casco Viejo, is described through its plazas, historic buildings and museums. I would begin here when walking through a city sounds more appealing than focusing on one attraction. Choose a starting plaza and a place to finish, with room for a meal or a pause along the way.
The drawback is that saving the neighborhood name does not create a route. Select the buildings or facilities you actually want to enter. Their opening arrangements must be checked individually. A district walk and admission to a particular museum are different pieces of planning, even when both appear under the same neighborhood label.
Biomuseo: make room for an exhibition
The national tourism office describes Biomuseo on the Amador Causeway as a place to explore biodiversity and cultural heritage, in a building designed by Frank Gehry. It is a candidate when the country’s natural story interests you, or when architecture is part of what you want to see.
The limitation is the difference between enjoying the exterior and spending time with the exhibits. Agree on that distinction with your companions. Look up the museum’s current visitor arrangements when your date is set. This guide does not verify every current exhibition, language option or ticket condition. It helps identify a direction for the visit before those practical details are settled.
One anchor can make the day easier
Do not assume that three names on the same city map guarantee convenient transfers. Draw a route from your accommodation and back, then choose one main stop and one optional addition. If a ship transit is important, use that information to shape the plan. If walking is the point, leave the neighborhood enough time.
For an airport stopover, work from the actual flight and entry arrangements before considering city sightseeing. A short stay does not make a longer checklist more sensible. Leaving a site for another visit is a reasonable choice. A clear conversation about what the group wants to see can be more useful than adding one more attraction.
What the photographs can tell you
There is a licensed photograph of each place. They help identify the setting, without establishing conditions on your travel date. They cannot verify queues, access or the timing of a vessel. Return to the official links when the day is fixed and check the actual route as well.
My shortlist would start with Miraflores for the canal, Casco for a neighborhood walk, or Biomuseo for an exhibition and architecture visit. Giving them a universal ranking would hide those differences. The table below gathers the questions to ask before deciding where the day goes. It is not a report of our experience at the attractions.

Our choice
Choose Miraflores for the working canal, Casco Antiguo for a neighborhood walk, or Biomuseo for an exhibition-led visit. Set one anchor first. Then leave room for transfers and whatever you actually want to spend time doing, rather than collecting all three names in a hurry.
